OUR MISSION

In recognition of the diversity of the Asian American community at Northeastern University, the Pan Asian American Council seeks to create a common space for dialogue among all Asian American students at Northeastern University. The Pan Asian American Council aims to provide support, training and resources for Asian American students, particularly those serving in leadership positions in their respective organizations. The Pan Asian American Council recognizes the importance of individual Asian American student organizations at Northeastern, but also aims to define the common ground that is the foundation for all of these student organizations.

Vietnamese Student Association - Meet Son Le

Hey, I am Son Le a.k.a. God of Kitchen. I am a Senior year studying Mechanical Engineering. I was born in Boston, lived in Brookline, MA moved out to Weston, MA and that is currently where I live. I do martial arts and sports for fun, willing to try any sport. I have spent lots of time around Vietnamese people when I was younger and then moved into a predominately white neighborhood so I can relate to most people. I am a second generation Vietnamese, and my family is self-employed. When I am not studying and hanging out with my friends I help out my family if I can. I am a friendly yet proud to be different in my own way. Talk to me there are many crazy things we can talk about. MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Utsav - Meet Nipali Patel and Vimal Vaidya

Hello Everyone! My name is Nipali Patel and this upcoming year I will be Co-President of UTSAV, South Asian Organization. I’ve had the pleasure of being part of UTSAV for the last three years, two of which I served on e-board as Internal Public Relations and Secretary.

I am the oldest of three and have a constant need of taking charge. I believe this compulsion comes from constantly taking care of my younger siblings. Lucky for me I was able to turn my compulsion into passion since I am majoring in Nursing. Now I will get paid to do what I love; taking care of others! I love meeting new people because “strangers are just friends you haven’t met yet.” Random fun facts about myself… I love going to IHOP, I can’t whistle, love collecting quotes, always smiling and one of my favorite animals are penguins because they have no knees!   As a rising senior, I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone in PAAC and enjoying my last year on campus!

My name is Vimal Vaidya and I am the Co-President of Utsav South Asian Organization. I have been involved with Utsav for three years now, two of which I have served on the e-board as webmaster and vice president. Additionally, I was also last year’s Utsav PAAC representative. I am currently a senior majoring in Biology.

When I am not busy with Utsav or school work, I love to listen to hip-hop and house music, stay-up-to-date on technology news, hang out with friends, and explore Boston.

I am looking forward to integrating Utsav with PAAC even more and meeting all the new faces from all the different PAAC groups!

Pi Delta Psi - Meet Sam Choi

Hey everyone! My name is Sam Choi and I am the President of Pi Delta Psi Fraternity Inc.. I am currently a third year majoring in Physical Therapy, and am on coop at Scanlon Physical Therapy in Jamaica Plain. I’ve had the greatest pleasure of being an integral part of my fraternity for 2 full years, and now as the youngest elected President in our chapter, I look forward to inspiring our peers, succeeding according to our four pillars, and also having a ton of fun along the way.
In the past year, I have served Pi Delta Psi as its External Vice President, as well as the External Liaison in KASA (Korean American Student Association). I have also had the opportunity to expand my networks and relationships beyond PAAC and into Fraternity/Sorority Life, the National Panhellenic Council, and the Latino/a Student Cultural Center.

My favorite things to do are going to the gym, listening to and playing music, boxing, stepping and strolling, and spending time with my loved ones.
Friends, new and old, and especially to our potential brothers other there, I hope to see you all in the upcoming year!

Korean American Student Association - Meet Albert Sung

I am a sophomore at Northeastern studying business and mathematics. I was born and raised in southern California. For fun I like to play hockey, lacrosse and basketball. I am the new KASA President and I am very excited to see the growth of KASA as well as the other PAAC groups. I love eating Mexican and Korean food and listening to Korean music.

Kappa Phi Lambda - Meet Carrie Leong

Hi guys!  My name is Carrie Leong, and I’m the president of Kappa Phi Lambda this upcoming school year.  I was raised in Brooklyn, NY.  I’ve been in Boston more than home for the past four years.  I guess Boston grew on me (celtics <3).  This will be my last year at Northeastern.  I can’t believe how fast time flies.  I’ve been actively involved in KPL since my freshman year, and it has given me a chance to become a leader and meet a lot of people outside of my circle.  Being part of Kappa Phi Lambda and the PAAC community have given me some of the best memories.  I hope everyone can take their college career and turn it into something meaningful and have a well-rounded experience.

I love food (but I can’t cook).  I tend to upload a lot of food pictures on facebook, and some people just can’t handle it.

Delta Phi Omega - Meet Insiyah Lightwala

Hi guys! My name is Insiyah Lightwala and im the President of Delta Phi Omega sorority. I am originally an Indian citizen but have born and raised in Dubai. I am studying Civil Engineering with a math minor at Northeastern. Currently in my junior year I have been able to grow a lot in the last couple of years. I am not only a part of DPO but am also a part of the Honors Program and Chi Epsilon, which is a civil engineering honors society. While engineering isn’t taking the life out of me  I enjoy reading and baking. My motto in life: Never stop! Because I never stop for attaining what I want! Looking forward to a new and fun filled year with PAAC!

Barkada - Meet JP Valenzuela

I‘m JP Valenzuela the president for Barkada and I’m a 4th year mechanical engineering major.  Originally from NJ, but now living in a really cool apartment, location is a secret.  I was one of Barkada’s PAAC reps last year and won the Most Enthusiastic PAAC Rep award at last years Inspir(Asian), WOOHOO!  You can catch me playing basketball at Marino or outside playing soccer or even on some mountain snowboarding.

Asian Student Union - Meet Angel Lam

Oh Hello there!

My name is Angel Lam (yes, Angel is my real name,) and I’m this year’s current President of Asian Student Union.  This year I’ll be a Junior with a Biology major and I’ve been a part of PAAC (Team ASU) since Freshman year. I was a Spring Admin so I was a late one getting involved and I just don’t the heart to leave.  I’ve also part of an Asian influenced hip-hop dance team known as Revolve.  I’m always down to dance with anyone who is interested! I enjoy outdoor sports too to keep myself running around like a child and in tune with my occasional hyper self.  If I had the time I would read for pleasure but as long as the sun is out I love playing tennis and basketball (when there’s not much defense against me shooting). I also love the water but don’t get exposed to it that often but the beach is probably one of my favorite places to be.  I’m always looking for good company and conversations so don’t ever be shy to say hi! (see there, I rhymed.) I should probably mention I have a huge passion for all types of music too.

Welcome to PAAC 2011-2012!

Hey everyone!

Welcome to our new blog for the upcoming 2011-2012 year!  We hope that this blog will be a wonderful resource for everyone to keep up with recent Asian American news and updates on the Pan Asian American Council and the 8 wonderful groups that make up the council!

So what better way to get it started than to introduce ourselves, your PAAC Co-chairs for the 2011-2012 year, and the presidents of the eight organizations?

——————-

Erickson Maala

Erickson is a fourth year pharmacy student at Northeastern.  He was born in the Philippines, raised in New York, and loves every part about living in Boston.  When he isn’t studying his face off, you can find him playing sports (basketball, tennis, etc.), reading, or keeping up to date with the latest music.  He has been a very active member of NU Barkada, where he was last year’s president and will be this coming year’s treasurer.  He is hoping to bring his experience from Barkada e-board to the PAAC Co-Chair position and bring PAAC to bigger and greater things.

Richie Huynh

Richie is currently a senior here at Northeastern University studying Biology.  He is excited to be one of the PAAC Co-Chairs for the upcoming academic year.  PAAC has been a wonderful resource in helping Richie connect with his Asian American identity, and he feels privileged to get the opportunity to work with everyone in cultivating Asian American awareness on campus.  Richie’s experiences with student organizations come from his years as part of the Vietnamese Student Association, which he hopes will be a great asset to PAAC.  He loves working out, cooking, and relaxing to good music.

We hope everyone is as excited as we are!  Stay tuned as we roll out the presidents within the next couple of days, and keep checking back for any updates regarding anything from campus activities to Asian American news!
